Recycled, Innovative, Jewelry

Recycled…

What do you do with an old or expired credit card or gift card?  Throw it in the trash right? Not Kelly.  The idea came when she was about to throw an old card in the trash, but instead cut it up to make something new.  That something was a pair of earrings.  It started as a basic square no frills design and after many tries with both credit cards and gift cards, the designs called shredz, dotz, cubz, and squarz came to be.

Kelly has partnered up with her identical twin sister Katie to start the jewelry design business Kellybeth.  The sisters grew up in a small town in Illinois with a population of 650.  They came from a hardworking conventional 4-H background where they learned to cook, sew, and create.

Innovative...

Designing new things out of unconventional and recycled materials has always been a passion for Kelly.  In 4th grade she even won the "Ugly Book Contest" for designing a book cover for an old book out of a shopping bag and crayons!

Recycling comes naturally for the Campbells having a grandma who was "going green" before it's time and reused everything!  The retail and design side comes from having a Mom (Beth) who has owned two creative businesses which were always a big part of their lives growing up. Those hard earned lessons have brought the Campbell twins a long way, from playing softball at the University of Kansas, to teaching in Switzerland, to now creating a green jewelry line.  Kellybeth has grown out of the desire for the twins to live in the same town as well as work for themselves and be creative in all they do. To pursue a dream, not a job!

Jewelry…

We want to share our creativity with the world and offer an alternative line of jewelry for the adventurous, fun, trendy, and eco-conscious woman.  We’ve created our business so we can spend time with women and make them feel beautiful simply by creating a product that will be a conversation starter and can be worn with confidence.

Lastly, we believe in doing all we can to provide products that are earth friendly and can be made from recycled materials.  We are reusing an item that is so prevalent in our society and will not be extinct anytime soon. Gift cards account for a large amount of retails sales each year.  That is a lot of cards in our landfills.

Our designs are not sacrificing style to be eco conscious, but are stylish and green all in one.  So enjoy your new Kellybeth jewelry and love wearing it!

Rice Bag Purses Made in the Dominican Republic

I Heart the DR Bag Line     Shop NOw

I was able to travel to the  DR in June, 2009 and met an amazing group of women already sewing and selling a line of bags.  Walking around the neighborhood I continually saw old 50lb rice bags lying around.  That is when it came to me, I could sell purses the women made out of rice bags!  Recycled, green, hot right now in the US.  That is where it all started...

Read on about the community...

At the Luz en al Camino school in Aguas Negras, Dominican Republic, kindergarten through second grade children receive not just an education, but also love, support and a safe place to spend their days.  For the parents in this community, the school is a blessing for their families and their children.  The teachers work either as volunteers or on extremely modest salaries, and the church provides the classroom space and much of the supplies.  Still, the school does not receive any support from the government, and some families cannot afford the nominal tuition the school must charge.

A few local woman are working to make sure that every child has the opportunity to attend school, however.  At a small shop in the neighborhood, Isabelle  and some of the teachers from the school make and sell handmade purses and jewelry to raise funds so that every child in the neighborhood has the opportunity to attend school.  Through partnership with the Luz en el Camino school, Denver Community Church and KellyBeth Designs, these bags are available for purchase in the United States with proceeds going to benefit the Luz en el Camino school and the children of Aguas Negras.  The purchase of one bag will pay for a child to attend school for two to three months, and will help the families of Aguas Negras break the cycle of poverty for the next generation.
